I experience this as the murkiness, the ambiguity of choice, in Oscar Wilde's terms, be careful what you wish for, you might get it. An exit by the knotted bedsheet is slow but reversible; you can climb back up. If you leave by the greased rope, you're outta there fast but permanently (and slimed in the process).
