Artwork Story

Exhibited Laguna Art Museum 1998-9 "Life Lessons: How Art Can Change Your Life"

Judith Spence

[comments made for the exhibition "Life Lessons" at Laguna Art Museum" 1998-9] This is a photograph of the original piece which is currently on view in the exhibition "Sunshine and Noir" at the Armand Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. You can read about this in the lecture [see 'Stories': What I Learned...], where I call attention to a legitimate, healthy form of narcisissm, which has to do with using reflections of ourselves to find out more about our true selves. Shaw says that in every action, every "footstep" we leave an imprint of who we are. This was a major point in a movie we love, Tron, in which the personalities of the people who wrote the programs came alive inside the computer. This also connects to quite a few other works in this exhibition: Choosing Green Beans, the Boskovich pieces among others.
